Question: Where is the serial number on a gun located?

Serial numbers are almost always found on the butt. Some older models may have a serial number stamped on the cylinder and on the bottom of the barrel with a “B” prefix. Newer large- frame models may have the serial number stamped in the crane.

Is the gun serial number on the box?

Theyre normally located on the barrel and the upper receiver but depending upon the age of the gun — there may only be one. Its the number that gets pulled for the Form 4473 that gets saved alongside the authentication of the background check.
