The Hindi region is traditionally divided into two: Eastern Hindi and Western Hindi. The main dialects of Eastern Hindi are Awadhi, Bagheli, and Chhattisgarhi. The Western Hindi dialects are Haryanvi, Brajbhasha, Bundeli, Kanuji, and Khariboli.
22 languages The Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution lists 22 languages, which have been referred to as scheduled languages and given recognition, status and official encouragement. In addition, the Government of India has awarded the distinction of classical language to Kannada, Malayalam, Odia, Sanskrit, Tamil and Telugu.
What was Hindi called?
Hindustani They developed it as the language of administration of British India, further preparing it to be the official language of modern India and Pakistan. However, with independence, use of the word Hindustani declined, being largely replaced by Hindi and Urdu, or Hindi-Urdu when either of those was too specific.
