Some 27% of fathers under the age of 30 are single fathers, and most of these are cohabiting. The share of fathers that are single fathers declines markedly at older ages—16% of those ages 30-39 are single fathers, and 13% of those ages 40 or older are.

What percentage of parents are single?

In 2020 nearly 19 million children, amounting to 25 percent of all children in the U.S., were living in single-parent families. That percentage is nearly three times the level in 1960 of 9 percent. Americas proportion of children living with a single parent is more than three times the worldwide level of 7 percent.

Are single parents happier?

A study published in the Journal of Happiness confirmed exactly what it is that I have been feeling, stating that single parents are just as happy as their married counterparts in spite of the fact that they have more challenging circumstances. Very few of us plan to raise our children alone.
