Question: How do AV receivers work?

The receiver is at the heart of a typical home theater system. The receiver sends the video on to your television and sends the audio to the decoder. The decoder sorts out the different sound channels from the video signal, and then sends the information to amplifiers for each sound-channel output.

What is a AV receiver used for?

Put simply, a receiver has two main functions: firstly, it amplifies the sound so it can be fed to your speakers, and secondly, it allows you to select the audio and video you wish to watch. You can use it to switch from a DVD to free-to-air TV, for example, with the touch of a single button.

How do receivers work?

The receiver uses electronic filters to separate the desired radio frequency signal from all the other signals picked up by the antenna, an electronic amplifier to increase the power of the signal for further processing, and finally recovers the desired information through demodulation.

How to Hook Up Two Audio Receivers TogetherPlug one of the audio receivers into the wall and locate the output on the device. Plug the other receiver into the wall and locate its input. Plug the RCA cable into the output on the first device and into the input on the other one.

Is it bad to leave AV Receiver on?

Leaving the AV receiver and amp on will not cause damage. Most are set up to use minimal power while on and are safe to put into standby mode. It is often seen as good practice to turn the system and components off between uses. It will not harm your system if it is left on, though.
