Question: What is the age of marriage in Sudan?

Despite international and domestic pressure to make 18 the minimum age for marriage, the Muslim Personal Law remains unchanged. Although Sudan has ratified the Convention on the Rights of the Child, it has failed to comply with its recommendation to set 18 as the minimum age of marriage.

Sudan has no legal age of consent, because marriage is legally required before sexual intercourse is allowed. If there is no age limit to marriage, there is effectively no age of consent between married individuals. Sexual activity outside of marriage is illegal in Sudan, and there is no defined age of consent.
