What does ICP do to the baby?
ICP can have serious consequences for the baby, with increased chances of premature birth, neonatal unit admission and stillbirth. Research shows that about 1 in 10 women diagnosed with ICP will have their baby early.
Can you have a healthy baby with ICP?
It is most common for ICP/OC to develop after 28 weeks of pregnancy but it is possible for it to happen as early as week 8 of pregnancy. Although the itching can be very uncomfortable and it can be frightening to be diagnosed, most women who have ICP have a healthy baby.
Why is ICP better than AAS?
ICP is the method of choice when you want to measure multiple elements. AAS is cheaper but can only determine the concentration of a particular element. ICP-MS is more expensive but faster, more sensitive and can analyze multiple elements simultaneously (can detect down to PPT levels!).
