Question: What happens in couples Counselling?

In couples counselling, you gain new perspectives about each other and the way you relate, and you also learn new ways of being together. Couples counselling includes “skills work” to help you actually do something different, as well as helping you explore your feelings and thoughts with your partner.

What does relationship counselling involve?

Counselling provides you with a caring, confidential, safe and supportive space to talk. It can really help to speak with someone who is completely separate from your relationship. There will be some hard work involved, but we will work together, collaboratively.

Is counselling good for couples?

One frequently cited statistic says that 38 per cent of couples who embark on counselling are divorced four years later. But thats from a 1991 report – a more recent 2012 study from the Journal of Marital and Family Therapy found that “couple therapy positively impacts 70 per cent of couples”.

Does relationship counselling really work?

If you can get over the hump of entering relationship therapy, the rewards are often much greater than those of individual counselling. In many cases, couples get an immediate short-term boost. For this reason, couple counselling often needs fewer sessions than one-to-one work.
